About Wallace Craven
I have been extremely blessed and fortunate to have these experiences in my lifetime.
I was reared in Habersham County and like the majority of people in the mid-20th century, making and selling moonshine was the way of life in Northeast Georgia. I came from a family of seven boys and four girls, there were three younger than me.
I graduated from high school and went to work in a plant. I had several menial jobs in a ten-year period and also was rearing two children.
My dream was to be an entrepreneur and in my younger years, I thought this was possible, how could I, the daughter of a moonshiner, own her own business.
In the early 70’s, one of my brothers was in the wholesale car business. He persuaded me to go to Atlanta to transfer automobile titles for him. Eventually, the title business became my business. I was on my way. This helped my confidence; I did this for 19 years. During this time, I worked two other part-time jobs (one was Mt Airy City Clerk for 9 years and I also worked with the Postal Service in Baldwin for five years).
My brother and I built a convenience store in Mt Airy, Lake Russell Convenience Store. During our ownership of the convenience store, I ran for the office of mayor of Mt Airy and held that position for 13 years. My city, Mt Airy, was known for weekend brawls in the beer joints, shootings, stabbings, and fights. As the mayor, My claim to fame was getting those two beer joints closed; they are closed to this day!!@!@
I got my real estate license 30 years ago, several years prior to this my two sisters and I dabbled in buying and selling real estate. It was so exciting; I love real estate. I can’t imagine doing anything else. I love people and enjoy helping them.
However, I will not let anything come between me and my relationship with God. During my successful years, I had three mentors. Troy Simpson, who was on the Georgia D.O.T board, Alton Wingate, CEO of Community Bank and Trust, and Dr. Wilbur Johnson, a real estate guru from Alabama. These three men helped me to believe I could accomplish anything I wanted. I have served as Secretary and also as Vice President on the Habersham, White and Stephens Board of Realtors. I am a lifetime Member of the Million Dollar Club. I have my G.R.I designation and I am a broker.
I am on the Board of Stewards for Central Heights Church, a former member of Habersham County Rotary Club, a former member of the of Georgia Mountain Christian Academy. During the 1980’s and 1990’s, I opened Wallace Craven Realty in 1996 and closed it in 2008 and merged with Norton Mountain Properties. I have a son, a daughter, a grandson, a granddaughter and a great-grandson who I am very close to. My son passed away in 2011.
