White County is nestled in the mountains of Northeast Georgia approximately 85 miles from Atlanta. The county seat is Cleveland, Georgia with its historic town square with shops, a museum and home to the original Cabbage Patch Kids and Babyland General Hospital.
The history of the city of Helen can be traced to 1828 when gold was discovered at Duke's Creek. Helen became the logging camp and was virtually stripped of all timber. The fate of Helen changed when a group of local businessmen decided they wanted their town to be more than a broken down lumber town. With the help of local artist, John Kollock, a plan was devised to transform it into an Alpine village complete with Bavarian shops, cobblestone allies, and rust-roofed chalets. Visitors flock each year to attend Oktoberfest for the months of September and October.
White County has much to offer its residents, as well as visitors, including backpacking, golf, trout fishing in mountain streams, horseback riding, tubing, wonderful restaurants, exquisite shops and The Unicoi Wine Trail.
